Housing Authority History

On August 11, 1943, a meeting was called by Monsignor J.E. Murphy of Sharon, PA for the purpose of organizing the Mercer County Housing Authority. The Authority's first project was named Oak Park Trailer Projects which consisted of 185 trailers on Memorial Drive in Farrell and was first occupied in April of 1944. The second and third communities, also in Farrell, were Steel City Terrace in 1945 (150 apartments), and Steel City Terrace Extension in 1952 (100 apartments).
